Other Events

We hope our festival will be one big excuse to relax, laugh and have fun with others. Our programme of social events provides the perfect opportunity to meet other festival-goers – to connect with like-minded needleworkers from all over the world.

Tutor Demonstration & Market Day

A unique opportunity to watch each tutor in action and shop to your heart’s content

Begin your festival experience with a bang, with our morning demonstration and afternoon shopping spree.

This fun, social day will begin with demonstrations from our tutors during which they will stitch key techniques on one of their designs. In groups no larger than 10, students will move between each tutor at timed intervals having the opportunity to meet each tutor in turn, watch them stitch and ask questions.

After a short break for lunch, the demonstration halls will be transformed into an exclusive marketplace during which ticket holders will be able to buy needlework designs direct from the tutors. The Market Day will be the only opportunity to buy from the tutors as selling will not take place during class. However, many will tutors will have their kits available in our pop-up shop, in the centre of Appleby, which will be open throughout the Festival.

An Appleby Welcome

Appleby welcomes you to the festival

Our ancient church in the heart of the community is the venue for our official welcome to the Lady Anne’s Needlework Festival. This unique even will be hosted by Phillipa & Laura Turnbull and will be in the presence of local dignitaries and as well as ‘Lady Anne Clifford’.

St Lawrence’s church was restored by Lady Anne in the late-17th Century and her final resting place is in the crypt below the church. The evening will include a short history of the town and an introduction to the life of Lady Anne Clifford from her direct descendant Lord Hothfield. There will be music from our choir and an official welcome from Phillipa and Laura. Wine and soft drinks will be available to purchase at the event (in aid of the restoration of this ancient, beautiful building).
