Deborah trained at the Royal School of Needlework and graduated with distinction. She specialises in a wide range of historically-accurate embroidery techniques. As well as working on embroidery projects herself, she also teaches embroidery skills on behalf of the Royal School of Needlework and she is studying once again, this time with Princes School of Traditional Arts.

Deborah's May 2022 Festival Workshops

Elizabethan Coif

This stunning design is based on a coif in the collection of the V&A museum in London. It dates from the early 1600’s and is worked with red silk and highlighted with silver spangles. 

The techniques covered make this class suitable to all levels of experience. Stitches included are back stitch, buttonhole, seeding.

Kit Includes:
Fabric with printed design, calico base fabric, red silk thread, spangles, silver metallic thread, instruction book and needles.

Blackwork, basic Goldwork

Design size:

Equipment required:
8” embroidery hoop or similar sized embroidery frame. Sharp embroidery scissors for thread, sharp embroidery scissors for metallic threads.

Daylight lamp and magnifier if required.

Deborah's Past Festival Workshops

Phoenix from the Flames

Originally offered as part of the May 2021 Festival.

This design is inspired by an embroidered glove and gauntlet from circa 1600 is currently on display at the Fashion Museum, Bath. The circular design shows the symbolic Phoenix rising from the flames.

During this live class Royal School of Needlework trained tutor Deborah Wilding will teach you various historic Goldwork, Surface embroidery and raised embroidery techniques.
