Zinaida is a graduate of the Future Tutors programme at the Royal School of Needlework, which she completed with a distinction in 2018. In addition, Zinaida finished professional fashion embroidery training in the Ecole Lesage (Métiers d’Art CHANEL) in 2019. She regularly teaches at the RSN and the London Embroidery School in the UK and USA. As well as undertaking private commissions, Zinaida also works in the RSN commercial studio.

Elizabethan Rose

11-13 July 2020

Stumpwork and Goldwork techniques using a variety of different stitches commonly used in the 16th and 17th century, using needlelace, satin stitch and couching stitches using purls, spangles and freshwater pearls. Inspiration was drawn from two different 17th century embroidery panels depicting flowers in metalwork frames.

Practical info

Length: 3 days
Level: Suitable for those with prior experience of goldwork & stumpwork

Techniques: Laid and Couched Work, Long & Short ‘soft shading,’ 17th Century crewel stitches

Kit with silk threads – £110
Kit with DMC threads – £389

Kit Includes:
Linen fabric with an image on it, a variety of Goldwork threads, cotton embroidery threads, gimp, chenille threads, spangles, freshwater pearls, needles, beeswax, and a kit instruction.

Frame requirements:
10 and 6 inch bound wooden frames with either a barrell clamp or seat paddle

Equipment required:
You will need to bring scissors suitable for Goldwork threads. A mellor, velvet board and tweezers will be available to borrow during the class.
